Does P W own the entire building it’s housed in? Well deserved record, magnificent achievement.
And it's as easy as that - who would have know (not me I've never even tried this but I am now). Thanks for the instruction👍
absolutely bloody brilliant so well done all of you I enjoy your videos so much please don't stop love it well done
As a reply to the prior post says, the birdcage was built to brace the Northampton loop’s deeper cutting retaining walls, these were added after structural failure of the original masonry walls. In practice there are only two lines under the birdcage, with the Rugby direct lines at a higher level swinging away to the Northwest. The birdcage was added prior to electrification then modified (raised) to accommodate catenary. When lifted, the original beams were flame cut and new beams laid on top of remaining stubs. The guys are modelling these details brilliantly. There is a good book called ‘Cutting Remarks’ which covers the history of this amazing piece of Civil Engineering.
Thank you for the additional information. Very interesting.
I was born in Roade and lived there from 1970 until 1988, as a kid I've investigated every inch of the cutting so this is super interesting! There are several bridges spanning the cutting and the village, one is a shallow iron water trough which is only around 2 feet wide and directly over the 4 lines before the slow lines drop into the cage. We would walk across this for a dare, incredibly dangerous but that was life back then. 😁 Watched the APT snake its way through many times as well so really look forward to see this develop. Thanks for all the time dedicated to filming this project, as living in Thailand, I don't get the chance to visit.
Intrigued to know why the grid was needed for the catenary in the full size/real world, rather than the more conventional arrangements.
The "birdcage" as they call it was designed to add support to the retaining walls in the deepest part of the cutting as the slow lines descend into the Northampton loop..
@@DaventryParkway Thank you.
The guy in yellow did as much work as I did in this video.
Just fantastic lads
That's incredible!
Another great episode! I love the way these guys work together to solve the various problems and the banter is blooming marvellous! 😊 👍
good vid on the channei keep up the goods vid layout looks well
Please Please Please keep making the effort to record all the amazing 👏 work each and everyone of you put in too creating a modelling masterpiece. Well done chaps and thank you 😊
Love these videos.
Hiya Dave. Just a little note. August 29 is a Thursday this year. As far as I know, the end date for MT4 is Saturday August 31 2024. 🙂 As a reminder the dates the layout will be open at the Cathedral are : Thursday 1st August to Saturday 31 August every day except Sundays and Friday 16 August. 10am - 5pm. The layout will be in the main Nave this year as was Making Tracks 1 back in 2021. 🧙♀️🙋♀️
To Pete Waterman and all at Mega points Controllers... Re you Guinness Records project. Have you ever considered using "Box Section" steel for the layout base ?... With the correct design and construction it would not suffer from the variables found in wood, and alignments, once set, could be taken down, and rebuilt with extreme accuracy. No risk of warping, shrinking etc..... Just throwing an idea out there..
Great video Dave love the behinf the scenes bits the debriefs are grest to listen to what a hige task it was for you all 😮 A well deserved success. Looking forward to Chester and Blakemere.👍
Another great video. Those EV spaces need some EVs. Good to see Chris has recovered from Birmingham
Thanks to the lads
Four track curve, West Coast mainline, there aren't many better than the Queensville Curve
love watching them I really enjoy them all brilliant job keep it coming
Don’t rush Dave ,ffs😂😂😂
To me to you,🤣🤣
just done that, soz !
Another great update to what u all upto ready for chester
Another great fly on the wall video Dave. 👍 Keep the updates coming.
My mum thinks Dave is really 🔥🔥 Hot!. She asks will there be a naked tracks 2015 calendar. I am sure Pete find a place to hook his soldering iron laugh😂😂
You're 9 years late for that calendar! 🙂
😂😂😂😂
Great video as usual Dave really look forward to these updates gosh MT 4 now😂 what has Pete in store for us and more cars for Chris😂😂!!
This debrief sounds so like some of the large complex IT systems I’ve been involve in. So many moving parts to align where a small delay in one step has a larger knock on effect on the overall project. The segment on volunteer operators also reminds me of the need for good training as the system is handed over to the day to day operations team. Are they ready/can they handle the day to day problems
Fascinating to learn the problems of moving large portable layouts in tight deadlines.
Excellent video Dave and proved very informative with a lot to think about as they go forward.
Thinking about power districts, instead of having a booster doing a section of all tracks and another booster doing the adjacent section of all tracks, have a booster for each complete circuit of track and no other track. Extra sidings could be an additional booster(s).
Thanks dave nice to see u all having another duscussion and debrief
Thought I was seeing double, I never released you had twins there on the record-breaking train, etc. as said at least they are wearing different colours LOL
Colour (coding) for immediate recognition could make the jigsaw easier to decipher (?????) … just a suggestion … I’m so glad to see that you’re all still friends … well done everyone. 🙏🙏🙏
I still think a company such as Eddie Stowbart should have offered to cover the transportation. A driver and couple of lads to do the lifting would have helped you guys and would have been free publicity for them.
Is Eddie stobart still a thing as u don’t see them as much now it’s only the trailers I’ve see
Cullina now !
Maybe get Phil a gold chair and let him sit on it on top of the table. Might save time. :D
thanks dave. that was a frank and honest debrief. hope you dont have to do that again. caroline
Thank you so much for the upload.. it is so good to have a behind the scenes listen in. I find that I have more of a connection with the finish layout . Thank you so much.
In the game of 5 Whys? (Google it) people often avoid the fact they feel they can't change. Can I suggest that maybe you have a single point of failure being a single person. And this is fairly noticeable by who talks and therefore who is knowledgeable about a subject. At least you need to buddy these 'guru's up with an assistant to be ready when needed (or due to sickness)
Great video Dave looks awsome and those train run well. What is tge story at the endclip with Phil and zChris it was hilarious 😂😂Looking forward to the next build videos and to seeing it at Chester later. Thanks lads
Does the world record take into account the fact that only just over half of the layout is scenic?
Will the whole layout be seen again or will it go out in different, smaller configurations? Apologies if this has already been mentioned and I've missed it.
Brilliant layout! Can't wait for Chester. Dave. Have you ever damaged any part of the layout with your camera??? Shome of ghost shots are very close?
Nope, nothing I can admit to anyhow.
@@DaveFenton 😂
It's a bugger walking backwards though, isn't it? A late mate of mine, Marholm Savage. Saw me firing at Bala, one day, in the 1990s, and asked if he could have a footplate ride to the water tower. He did get his ride and was taking pictures at the tower....walking backwards into the hot cinders and clinker I'd just thrown out of the firebox! He asked if there was a chance of a lift back to thr platform, I said "Yes, but you will have to put the fire out on your shoe first"!!! Brand new Doc Martin shoes with flames off one of the soles!!!
@@DaveFenton see you at Chester. Think it's August, isn't it?
Thanks, Dave, for all the updates on this super layout. Without these videos, I could never have experienced this marvel. Very much appreciated. Well done, all the Rail Nuts team.👍
Fantastic lads thanks just awesome
good vid on running trains keep up the good vid nice layout
What happened to all the local trains?
Definitely a “Phil” sampling opportunity. Well done Railnuts for surviving the weekend. Train !!
Great videos Dave and having the overhead camera this time opened up the view to give the enormous size of the layout. Trust your over your aches and pains. Keep up the good work.
Great video Dave I Hope its not the last video...what are we going to do!!!😮
Is Pete going to try the longest running nonstop and long distance for a model train record. because he could have tried it on this layout.Or has it been done already.
Brilliant and the giant signs of the Food Bar and locomotive. So realistic.
